Purple Metalic Tiger

A Purple Metallic Tiger Shrimp is a selectively bred freshwater shrimp belonging to the Caridina genus, most commonly related to Caridina mariae or Caridina cantonensis varieties. It is prized by aquarium enthusiasts for its deep purple, bluish, or metallic body color, often combined with dark tiger-like stripes across the head and abdomen. Individual patterns and color intensity can vary depending on genetics, age, water conditions, and lighting.

These shrimp are small, peaceful scavengers that usually grow to around 2–3 centimeters long. They spend much of their time grazing on algae, biofilm, and microorganisms found on aquarium surfaces, although they also accept specialized shrimp foods. Purple Metallic Tiger Shrimp require clean, stable, soft, slightly acidic water, gentle filtration, and plenty of hiding places such as moss, driftwood, and rocks. They are best kept with other peaceful, similarly sized tank mates. Because they are sensitive to sudden changes and poor water quality, they are generally recommended for aquarists with some experience caring for Caridina shrimp.
